The Sixth Meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states has taken place!
On August 12, 2021, the 6th Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture of the SCO Member States was held in Dushanbe city in a virtual and in-person hybrid format, with the participation of representatives from the ministries and agencies of the SCO member states in charge of food security, veterinary and phytosanitary issues.
The heads of delegation highlighted that the current year is a jubilee year for the SCO. During 20 years of its operation, the organization made significant achievement in all areas and proved itself as a reputable international organization not only at the regional, but also global level.
During the meeting, the heads of delegation exchanged views on the situation of food security in the SCO member states. They noted the importance of interaction in countering the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the agricultural sector.
The delegates made proposals on promising areas of interaction in agriculture and food security within the framework of SCO and highly appreciated the cooperation between the SCO member states and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The heads of delegation approved the draft Joint Statement of the Heads of the SCO Member States on Food Security and agreed to submit it to the Council of Heads of the SCO Member States for review in accordance with the procedures in place.
The heads of delegation approved the Plan for the practical implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the competent authorities of the SCO member states on technical cooperation in the field of collaborative prevention and control of trans-boundary epizootic diseases. They underscored the importance of interaction between the SCO and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
The heads of the delegation approved the Concept of Establishing the SCO Demonstration Base for the Exchange and Training in Agricultural Technologies and they welcome its implementation in mutually agreed areas based on voluntary and equal rights principles.
The meeting was held in a businesslike and constructive environment,
in a friendly climate, mutual trust and cooperation.
